When Graaf Vincent van der Heyden-Belderbusch opened his French garden in 1787, he could not have surmised that over two centuries later his garden would be restored to its former splendour. Until a couple of years ago little could be seen of his garden of delight. Time had ravaged the once splendid garden into a pasture. Remains of the two columns at the entrance were the only visible traces from an illustrious past.
Excavations and research have led to reconstructing the Rococo garden in detail. Boxwood, old lei fruit species, roses and lavender are the authentic plants that reflect the structure. Open to the public, the garden is a favourite wedding location. It is wonderfully relaxing to daydream at sunset or near the bubbling fountain.
